Here we have the temptations of Jesus by Satan in the wilderness. Jesus had just been baptized by John the Baptist, and then he went into the wilderness to fast for forty days and nights. During this time, Satan came to him and tempted him three times.

The first temptation was for Jesus to turn stones into bread, but Jesus replied, "It is written: One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God."

The second temptation was for Jesus to throw himself down from the pinnacle of the temple, but again, Jesus replied, "Again it is written, You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test."

The third temptation was for Jesus to worship Satan in exchange for all the kingdoms of the world, but Jesus replied, "Get away, Satan! It is written: The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve."

This passage is significant because it shows Jesus' strength and resolve in resisting temptation, even when it came from the devil himself. It also shows that Jesus was willing to stand up for what was right, even in the face of great temptation and potential rewards. Additionally, it highlights the importance of relying on the word of God and putting faith in God's plan, rather than giving in to worldly desires.

Overall, it is a powerful example of the strength of Jesus' character and his unwavering commitment to doing what was right in the eyes of God.
