1 Corinthians 1:10-13 addresses divisions within the church in Corinth. Paul urges the believers to be united in mind and judgment, saying, “that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.” He highlights reports of quarrels, where members align themselves with different leaders, claiming, “I follow Paul,” “I follow Apollos,” “I follow Cephas,” or even “I follow Christ.” Paul responds by asking, “Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?”
Paul confronts the church’s misplaced loyalties, emphasizing that their allegiance should be to Christ alone, not to human leaders. His rhetorical questions remind them that salvation comes through Jesus, not through any teacher or apostle. This passage calls believers to unity, warning against the dangers of pride and division within the body of Christ, and urging them to focus on their shared faith in Jesus.
